We are looking for a Senior Design Technician to join our highways team in Oxford.

The Oxfordshire Highways contract is an integrated contract delivering a range of services in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council.

In particular this role will focus on carriageway pavement investigation and design work which is a core part of our scheme delivery. The Senior Design Technician will work closely with our pavement consultant to ensure investigations and design work are completed to agreed budgets and programmes. They will receive all the necessary training and support to become skilled in the most up-to date pavement design methodologies, whole life costing and performance related specifications.

The Oxfordshire business has been in operation since 2010, and currently runs to 2023, with further extensions possible if Skanska continues to perform to a high standard.  To achieve the growth and economic aspirations set by Oxfordshire County Council, there is an exciting and ambitious capital investment programme to tackle congestion and improve access to businesses and housing, and therefore we are seeking to recruit design staff at various levels to expand the Oxford office. The position is based in our co-located office in County Hall, located in the centre of the vibrant and diverse city of Oxford, with excellent public transport links.

You'll:

  • Design and organise pavement investigation programme, including liaison with internal teams and subcontractors to ensure efficient delivery.

  • Assist our pavement consultant in the design/specification of carriageway treatments to meet client requirements.

  • Assist our pavement consultant in carriageway asset management analysis to support our client in achieving optimum whole life cost.

  • Ensure a consistent quality of approach to the design of highway and transport schemes, ensuring compliance with Skanska and contract Integrated Management System processes.

  • Work closely with project managers and other local team members, to provide technical support to a variety of highway and transport schemes in an efficient and cost effective manner, within budget and to programme

We're looking for:

  • Working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges relating to the maintenance and construction of highway infrastructure.

  • Experience in design and specification of carriageway treatments and associated investigation techniques (desirable).

  • Foundation Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

  • Technician Member of Institution of Civil Engineers (EngTech MICE), Technician Member of Institute of Asphalt Technology (Tech.IAT) or equivalent (desirable).

  • Proficient in using AutoCad.

  • Experience of working with clients, contractors, stakeholders and multidiscipline teams.

  • Good interpersonal skills and a team player with a ‘can do’ approach.
