The Business Development Director will lead the business development efforts and support a sales culture for a region’s business growth plan. This individual will be tasked with supporting the business development plan to reach and establish relationships with high level clients, stakeholders and community partners in the markets we serve.  The Director must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have strong communication and client service skills.  He/she will collaborate and work closely with other BD Managers, account managers, operations leaders, preconstruction, and senior management.  This position will report to the San Francisco General Manager with a dotted line connection to the BD-CEVP.


What You’ll Do:

  • Accountable for the San Francisco office sales functions.
  • Responsible for developing and managing business development plan and budgets.
  • Responsible for hiring, training and professional development of sales reports.
  • Participate in Skanska National programs as requested.
  • Be an active member in the community and serve on various community boards as deemed appropriate by the local General Manager.
  • Leverage relationships within the community and industry.
  • Understanding of the basic construction operations (risk, financial, contracts, business deals, etc.)
  • Viewed by GM, COO & BD-CEVP as a business partner.
  • Support GM & COO in developing strategic business plans.
  • Lead sales training for San Francisco office with national support.
  • Can effectively discuss/sell Skanska services and operational processes.
  • Comfortable working at a “C-Suite” level with owners.
  • Partner with operations during the ORA (operational risk assessment) process.
  • Sales Target: $200M annually with $100M being new owner sales.
  • Actively participate and assist with Account identification, qualifications & pursuit process.
  • Actively participate and assist with internal processes and approvals necessary for pursuits.
  • Promote Skanska’s identity and brand in the region.
  • Assists in the development of a strong pipeline of new customers and projects in accounts through direct or indirect customer contact and prospecting.
  • Works with marketing, sales, and innovation development teams to implement business development initiatives.
  • Proficient in BD life-cycle processes
  • Experienced with CRM products; Manage opportunities and accounts.


We’re Looking For:

  • Good knowledge of the larger design firms and regional contractors who have operations are in the region.
  • Demonstrated business development skills and experience.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office productsand particularly with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to understand and follow detail directions.
  • Ability to work on / manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Functions effectively as part of a team.
  • Good time management, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, Marketing or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of Business Development, operations or management experience required.
  • Must have previous working knowledge of the CM/GC or AE business market
